What malls are still owned by the major mall owners??

 

I know malls have made it in the news quite a bit in the past few years. In fact, Macy's, a major mall store, today just announced the closure of 150 stores in the next few years, most, if not all, of those stores in traditional indoor malls. And they are working on moving away from the mall by opening 30 new stores, many of those replacement stores, in power centers. I might do a separate article specifically on that story. Most of the press about malls is negative, talking like they are dead and that no one goes to them anymore and that stores are leaving the malls in droves, and that malls are being held by the banks. Which seems terribly depressing because I like visiting malls and malls are often a fun place to hang out at and have a good time, and I don't want to see them become a thing of the past. Fortunately, not all malls are struggling like this and in fact, there are malls that still draw many shoppers to them and are destinations of themselves. I felt like a way to see what those ones are is to see what malls are still owned by the major mall owners. These are Simon, Brookfield, CBL, Westfield, Washington Prime, Macerich, PREIT. And there are even a couple malls that are still owned by the original family who built the malls. This isn't a guarantee that these malls are still doing well. There are some on this list that clearly aren't doing well and are going through redevelopment plans. And there are some malls that have been unloaded by these owners that are still doing well. But it's just a good average.
