The El Dorado County Sheriff Department
is planning a new facility for all of their departments. The planned location
for the new building is at 200 Industrial Drive in Diamond Springs, California.
I had the privilege of attending a community meeting Sheriff John D. Agostini
held at the El Dorado Hills Fire Station
85. The focus of the meeting was about this new facility. Sheriff D' Agostini
talked at the meeting about what the new facility is, what it will have, the
cost of the project, and the need for this new project. He talked about the
current 22,000 square foot office which was too small even on day one of its
opening in 1970. The current facility has leaks in the roof and requires buckets
on the floor to contain the leaks every year, even on Sheriff D'Agostini's
inauguration in 2011. Because of this, they have been planning the new sheriff
facility since 1984, which is a very
long time. The good news is, they are finally planning the ground breaking ceremony
on March 30th 2018 at 11:00am. The project construction costs of this new
project is estimated to be $48 million dollars and the completion is estimated
to be in October 2019. The contractors for the new project are Broward Builders
from Woodland specializing in schools and law enforcement buildings and Clark
Sullivan Construction from Roseville which has a lot of experience on
commercial buildings. This new facility will contain office and administration
space for the Sheriffs, a morgue, a shooting range, and a storage: for
evidence, vehicles and special operations. The project if completed would be a
big help for the sheriff department because it would consolidate all of the
departments into one building instead of all over the county. It was interesting
hearing everything he was saying about the new place and looking at the plans for this facility.
Sheriff D' Agostini brought to
our attention the need of a traffic light on Missouri Flat and Industrial Drive. As a citizen of this community, I believe the
sheriff's department and the county need to work together to create the traffic
lights needed to keep our community safe. So please encourage the country to
put in a light on Industrial Drive and Missouri Flat so the department can
safely get in and out.
Because of my interest in the
project, and my participation in the meeting, when my father happened to meet Sheriff
D Agostini a few days later, he gave my dad a challenge coin to give to me as a
gift. It's an honor and it will be something that I will treasure.
